In depth analysis of artistic style and collection value - He Jianhua
He Jianhua is proficient in Kai, Zhuan, Li, Xing, and Cao, tracing the origins and adopting advanced techniques. He is particularly devoted to the study and copying of Zhang Xu and Huai Su's cursive calligraphy, and has devoted himself to the field of cursive script, creating his own unique style.
The value of cursive script lies in temperament, but the difficulty lies in the law. The peak of Zhang Xu and the madness of Huai Su have always been two insurmountable peaks in the history of cursive script. He Jianhua studied the two schools not only by imitating their forms and qualities, but also by comprehending their brush and ink spirit. He pays special attention to the sense of power and line expression in cursive writing, running the center forward's strokes through the entire process. The lines are concise, firm, and contain muscles and bones, while the strokes are solid and smooth. The ups and downs at turning points are distinct, and the movements are flexible, creating a distinctive artistic appearance of "iron painting and silver hooks, penetrating the back of the paper". Observing its cursive script, it is fast but not slippery, and it is loose but not scattered. It has the momentum of large grass running and flowing freely, without losing the constraints of traditional laws, wild but not wild; The thickness and thickness of the lines vary dramatically, with a natural reflection of the thread. The aura is connected, and the brushwork combines strength and fluidity, with rigidity as the backbone and elegance as the charm. On the basis of inheriting the traditional wild grass paradigm, personal aesthetic understanding is integrated, adhering to the upright and seeking novelty.
He Jianhua practiced the five styles simultaneously, with a foundation in Kai, Zhuan, Li, Xing, and Cao. His artistic focus was on wild grass, immersing himself in Zhang Xu and Huai Su's calligraphy, using the technique of "shaking Zhang and drunkenness". However, he did not simply imitate the forms of ancient people, but focused solely on the use of brushwork, bone strength, and line shaping, forming a distinct artistic characteristic of iron painting and silver hooks that penetrate the back of paper.
The most prominent feature of its cursive script is its strong sense of line power. Holding the pen firmly, making good use of the center forward, the lines are strong and concise, like steel bars bending iron, with inherent rigidity. Although the strokes are vigorous and unrestrained, there is no problem of floating or drifting. The contrast between the ups and downs of the lines is strong, with thick and heavy areas that solidify, and fine areas that are like continuous threads. The stretching of the threads reflects the natural continuity of the belt, while the long lines stretch and open, and the short lines bounce and clang, creating a strong tension between the ups and downs, truly hiding the power within the lines.
The balance between momentum and law is appropriate. Wild grass easily leads to wastefulness, while his cursive script remains wild and scattered.Throughout the text, there is a continuous and vigorous brushwork, with a freehand atmosphere of flowing grass; At the same time, the painting instructions are clear, the brushwork is rigorous, the opening and closing of the composition are appropriate, the density and white cloth are ingeniously crafted, and the brushwork has its own rules, finding a stable balance between unrestrained emotions and traditional methods. The ink color alternates between dryness and wetness, the thick ink shows heaviness, and the withered pen appears vigorous, further enhancing the atmosphere of vastness and strength.
Throughout He Jianhua's artistic journey, it is a path rooted in tradition, gradual progress, and accumulation. He built his foundation with five bodies, established his home with wild grass, adhered to ancient methods without sticking to them, and emphasized lines, bones, and energy. From an academic perspective, his cursive script inherits the lineage of Zhang Xu and Huai Su, enriching the expression path of contemporary cursive script; From the perspective of collection, he holds a national first-class calligraphy and painting title, a national level association academic identity, and works endorsed by the National Museum of Fine Arts. His overseas collection has a clear lineage and is supported by international art awards, with orderly inheritance and high recognition. In the contemporary trend of cursive script creation, which tends to seek novelty and strangeness, he adheres to the spirit of cursive script with the beauty of strength, and his works have both ornamental value, cultural and historical value, and collection potential.
Hanmo knows no bounds, and writing never stops. He Jianhua, with a long hair, continues the thousand year old wild grass culture and writes the brush and ink atmosphere of this era between iron paintings and silver hooks.
